Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
Do you have to pay child support for a child who has another man's name listed on the birth certificate?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Whether you have to pay child support is dependent upon who has been judged to be the father of the child. A DNA test will most likely trump a birth certificate, particularly if the parties have never been to Court before. More information is needed to be able to provide a more specific answer.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
