Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
Paying the cost for a paternity test
My husband has just received papers stating that there is a child out there that he has allegedly father and the mother is seeking child support after 9 years. We do not know for sure that my husband is the father, so we would like to have a paternity test done. Is this something that we will have to absorb all of the cost for or can she be made to pay for some or all of it?

Re: Paying the cost for a paternity test
Your husband will only have ONE opportunity to raise the issue of paternity, and if he misses it, he will be forever barred from doing so. For that reason, it is extremely important that he discuss this situation with an experienced attorney a.s.a.p.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
