I am pregnant and single, and I want sole custody of my child... what can I do?
I am a single, pregnant woman and I am about three weeks from giving birth. I have had no contact with the father of my child for the last four months, and he seems to have no intrest in this child. I want to gain sole custody of my child, what steps should I take in doing this. If his name is put on the birth certificate does that help or hinder the process, also if my child has my last name would that be a help or hinderance? Any information would be appreciated. All you need to do is to file an action in the Family Court for a custody order. Any lawyer that practices family law can help you. If you are looking to do it yourself, I can't really walk you through it as there is a lot to it. A lawyer can take care of everything for you and all you would need to do is appear in court with him/her.
