Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

property laws in marriage

I wanted to know if real estate owned by a spouse prior to marriage was solely owned by that spouse. If both pay for it during the marriage?

Re: property laws in marriage

It depends. There are variations of the law.. ex. if the spouse owned the property 2 years prior to the marriage but was married 20 years and the other spouse contributed..directly and indirectly..that spouse may have some equity in the property. Please seek the advice of an attorney in your area.
