Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Rule to show cause - alimony - south carolina

Do I really need an attorney to represent me in a rule to show cause case for unpaid alimony if I have the court order? Is this something I can do on my own?

Re: Rule to show cause - alimony - south carolina

You can represent yourself in any Family Court matter in South Carolina, though it is generally not a good idea. Also, if you prevail and the other party is held in contempt, most judges will require that party to reimburse you for your attorney's fees and costs incurred in the Rule to Show Cause.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
