Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

My son's ex-girlfriend is expecting his child in January. They just broke up and she says she will not let him be a part of the baby's life when it's born. Does my son need to support her financially during her pregnancy in order to protect his parental rights when the baby is born?

Your son should provide financial assistance to the mother to help his chance after the baby is born. If she tries to keep him out of the child's life, then he can bring an action in Family Court seeking custody or visitation. From the information you provided, it sound as though that is his best option. Between now and then, there are several things that he can be working on to help his case then.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
