Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

In South Carolina, my spouse was ordered in the final decree to pay half of my attorney fees. I have paid my half in full and he has paid none. The attorney continues to call me asking me to pay for his half of the fees because he has not paid. Am I responsible for paying these fees for my ex spouse even following a divorce court order for him to pay them?

Most attorney fee agreements provide that the client is ultimately responsible for payment of the fees in full, regardless of whether the other party was ordered to contribute to them. If the other spouse does pay, then you would typically be refunded for any overpayments. If your spouse is not complying with the Order, then you can file a contempt action against him/her to force compliance.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
