Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

My stepdaughter's mother was ordered to liberal visitation when she and my husband divorced. That was 8 years ago. She hasn't seen the girl in 6.5 yrs... Now she's back and wants her liberal visitation. The daughter has NO CLUE who this woman is - do we have the legal right to deny her visitation? The daughter (whom I think of as my own) is 10 and has no desire to see her "mother".

Your husband has been placed into a difficult situation. If he denies her visitation request, then he could face a contempt action. His best option may be to bring an action to attempt to modify her visitation based on her disappearing for so long. However, I would need more information from him before making any specific recommendations for his case.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case. If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.SpartanburgLawyers.com). I wish you the best of luck.
