Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
Is an unnotarized letter of temporary custody legal

Nothing is "legal" except a Court Order. By "legal", I mean a document that has some legal authority and is enforceable if its terms are violated. A simple written document between parties doesn't mean anything except that's what they were thinking at a particular point in time. The only safe way to handle custody is with a Court Order.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
