Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

My wife and I are considering a divorce, when I married her 5 years ago she had title to the current home that we live in. Myself and my daughter reside within this home. Since we have been married we split half the bills, but I have spent nearly 30,000.00 of my money in improvements and upgrades. If we divorce do I walk away with nothing?

The short answer is "probably not." Non-marital property can become marital through a process called transmutation. Without knowing more about the entire marital estate, it's impossible to comment on how any particular asset will be divided or what type of distribution you could expect to receive in total.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case. If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
