Legal Question in Civil Litigation in South Carolina

Obligation to return gifts in excess of $10,000

I was given a pair of diamond earrings from an old boyfriend. This was not a symbol of any committment to marriage, in fact I declined his prospal days before. Is there any legal obligation to return this earrings. He is threatening to sue. He is a German citizen and I am an American citizen residing in SC. This gift was purchased and given to me while we were in the Caribbean. Do I have any legal obligation to return these earrings?

A gift is a gift. As long as there was no return promise or obligation by you, then its a gift and its yours.
