We recently had a judgement against us and believe the amount was more than we owed can we appeal the judgment?

I wish I couldd help you and answer your question, but I can't. If I did, I would be totally guessing and that would be irresponsible of me and could cause you more harm than good. There is just way too much information that I would need to answer your question. Right now I don't know what kind of a case it is, how much over what you think you owed is the judgment, etc. In some cases costs and penalties can be added on the judgment and so can punitive damages.

I can however tell you a couple things in a general sense. Most judgments can be appealed if certain requirements are met. What you need to know about this is that there are some very strict time frames for appealing and they can happen very soon after the judgment. Usually you would need to file a Notice of Intent to Appeal and that could be as soon as ten days after the judgment.

You need to immediately contact and attorney. You will also need to know if you meet the required grounds for an appeal. A person can only appeal for certain reasons.

Call a lawyer right away and let him/her ask the necessary questions in order to tell you what you need to know.
