Legal Question in Insurance Law in South Carolina

auto accident injury lawsuit

I was involved in a accident in 1998 and was just served papers for a lawsuit on personal injury by the other person in the accident. I have never been sued before and don't know how to proceed. Can I be sued for more than my auto liability for injury provides under a no fault law. Do I need to also get a personal lawyer besides the lawyers for the insurance company. I was never informed that there were injuries in the accident.

Re: auto accident injury lawsuit

All of your questions should be posed to the lawyers provided by the insurance company. A person could be sued for an amount above the insurance policy, but that usually doesn't happen. As far as you hiring your own personal lawyer, that shouldn't be necessary. I still recommend you ask your new attorneys these same questions.
