Legal Question in Insurance Law in South Carolina
Unfair salvage price
I have a claim with my insurance company on my motorcycle that was totaled 4 weeks ago. They are being fairly good as to the value of my motorcycle but will not comprimise on the salvage price they want if I keep the bike.($1800.00) I have gotten estimates from repair shops and they agree the salvaged motorcycle should not be over $800.00 and more likely around $500.00. Do I have any options here other than accept their offer? I asked to be faxed the salvage companies bids so as to see if they were really bidding that high. I was told that was confidential and none of my buisines. What are the options?

Re: Unfair salvage price
In my opinion, asking for verification of bids from the salvage companies was a reasonable request on your part. But then again, your dealing with an insurance company who's profits don't depend on being reasonable. If I was you, I would provide them with as much documentation as to the bike's worth and see if you can talk them down. I would also insist on seeing thier documentation. If that doesn't work, try contacting a supervisor. If that doesn't work, you might want to consult with an attorney regarding a lawsuit called, Bad Faith Insurance Claim. Good luck.
