Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in South Carolina

tenant

my father lets us live in a house that he owns for over a year, there is no lease, and i have paid him about 500 dollars, he verbally agreed that I could give him money whenever I had it, I have a wife and 4 small children, we are both unemployed right now, and now he says he wants money or he will evict us, how can he evict us when there is no lease or rental agreement? And also can he cut off our power which is also in his name?

Re: tenant

This is why written agreements are preferred, both to protect tenant and LL. You may be evicted if the LL proves the fair rental value of the place, and that he is not getting it.

You should either negotiate a deal with LL or find a job, FAST.
