Legal Question in Legal Ethics in South Carolina
Who incurs the risk of counterfeit bills received? The business or the employee? I am a bartender at Applebees. As part of my job, I handle a lot of money--some from customers, and I am the primary source for change for servers who also exchange money with customers. We have no pen for counterfeit money. I have several job responsibilties that are often performed very quickly and at the same time. Last week, I recieved a counterfeit twenty for a bill, and Applebees' made me pay for it out of my tips. There has been no training on spotting counterfeit bills, and while we once had a pen, we no longer do. It's my question that was it legal for them to make me pay for that??
