Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in South Carolina
I had a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy in November of 2008 due to a large uterine tumor. Immediately following surgery, I had severe pain to my left abdomen and my dr informed me that one of the machines used during surgery "overheated and malfunctioned". (Those are also the words on the dictation from my surgery). I have had another surgery since then to remove a lipoma from my left abdomen. Began having other complications that I felt like my dr was not addressing eg. continuing monthly periods, cramps, left abdominal pain that has recurred. I decided to see a new GYN, who immediately found that a piece of my uterus was left on the side that I continue to have pain. I have begun medication and, at some point, will need to have the rest of my uterus removed. Is there any recourse I can take, at least to cover the huge amount of medical bills? Thanks.

You should consult with an attorney to discuss the possibility of a medical malpractice action against the first surgeon. Of course, more information is needed to determine your chances of success, but it sounds as though it may be worth looking into at this point.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced personal injury attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
My law partners, Brac and David Turnipseed, handle these types of cases, and you are welcome to contact our office to schedule a convenient time for a consultation. I wish you the best of luck.
