Legal Question in Military Law in South Carolina
Chapter 2 medical discharge during Entry level seperation
My son is about 6 weeks away from graduating AIT and has been given a chapter 2 medical discharge because of a heart blockage the Army found while testing him for shortness of breath. Since he is still in his first 180 days and is not legally a soldier yet, will he be entitled to any type of financial help with his medical bills he may incur after he comes home for treatment? His profile papers the Dr. gave him says stress related and brought on by stress? I'm just worried because he will be coming home with no insurance and may have difficulty even getting a job when the employer finds out he has ''heart problems.'' We don't know any details yet of his condition except that my son was given no choice about the discharge.

Re: Chapter 2 medical discharge during Entry level seperation
An entry level separation normally confers no Veterans Administration (VA) benefits, including medical. Medical benefits are earned by completing at least one enlistement with at least a general under honorable conditions discharge. Service members who are disabled as a result of their service and who are medically retired, also retain benefits, regardless of length of service.
