can an attorney place a claim against a settlement he did not help you receive?

I was injured in an auto accident. I obtained an attorney and later dismissed him due to the fact I did not feel he was providing me with good representation in trying to obtain a settlement. He has since placed a lein on my future settlement that still has not been reached. I relased him 2 months ago and the insurance company is still gathering information before offering a settlemnt. They have been corresponding solely with me for the past two months. In the contract I signed with him he was to get paid if he helped me obtain a settlement, which he did not. The answer to your question depends on the specific language of the fee agreement that you had signed with the first attorney. Without knowing more, it is not possible to tell you more.
