Legal Question in Personal Injury in South Carolina
Slander
My daughter and ex son in law are going through a bitter divorce. He had the password to my email account and I know I cannot do anything about that, but when he was in my email account He went into a service I am a member of (Classmates) and changed my bio to state that I cheated on my exhusband, I was a drug addict, I am and escort with an escort service and an exotic dancer part time. He also put under the caption of one of my pictures ''For forty dollars, we will make you hollar''. Over 70 classmates have been to my profile and this is really embarrassing. Classmates has suspended my account because of the vulgarity, and they need a court order to trace which computer the changes came from. I left it just as he changed it until I can find out what to do. I know I can prove it was him. Do I have any recourse and how do I obtain a court order?
Thank you!

Re: Slander
I am afraid that I cannot be of much help. You posted your question under Personal Injury and Tort Law. I think that you should consult with an attorney that is experienced in Computer or Internet Law. As far as what does apply under Personal Injury and Tort Law, would appear that you might have a potential claim against this guy for Libel, which is similar to slander. Its difficult to prove but is a viable possibility. If you were to retain an attorney to file a libel action, you may then be able to get the court order that your seeking. I would suggest looking for an attorney in your county that practices Defamation, Slander or Liable. Good luck.
