Legal Question in Real Estate Law in South Carolina

My ex-girlfriend has some items stored in a storage shed that I pay for. I want here to remove the items so i can get my stuff out and discontinue use of the shed. What is the best way to go about this so I am cover by the law? I don't mind given her a month to get it out but I do not want to keep paying for the shed when I don't need it. She will not have the shed put in her name so she is responsible for it.

This isn't my area of law and I'm not sure why the web site sent me this question to me and not another lawyer. I'm only answering it to be a nice guy because I doubt anyone else will.

To help you, I looked in the South Carolina Code, but couldn't find anything. I had to deal with this about 10 years ago and at that time there was a code section on it. I don't know why I couldn't find one today. So I really don't know what the law is since I can no longer find the section on it. I sort of remember it was entitled, "Abandoned Property."

If I remember correctly, and I'm not positive that I do, the law stated that you had to notify the person that they had 2 weeks to retreive the property, or you were free to do what you wanted with it, including discarding it. The notice had to be in the form of a certified letter.

Please do not rely on this as being the correct law. I just hate to see someone not get any sort of an answer to their question. It would be a good idea to call around and see if an attorney in your area is more up to speed on it than me.

Sorry I wasn't more help.

My areas of law are Criminal Defense and Personal Injury
