Legal Question in Real Estate Law in South Carolina

Hoa

I bought a house four years ago and was not told there was an HOA. I still have never recieved a copy of the bylaws but am sent a bill every year? What are my rights in this case? Do I still have to abide by the bylaws even if Ive never signed an agreement to?

You did not mention if you were represented by a real estate agent. If you were, you may want to contact him/her and discuss this. That is generally something that they look into. Also, when a lawyer does the closing, that is something that is also checked on. As far as the by-laws, you did not mention if you have asked for them. If not, then you might want to. As far as abiding by the by-laws, you are probably obligated to, but I am reluctant to give specific advise on that without seeing them.
