Home warranty

We recently sold our home and purchased a home warranty for the buyers as part of the deal. Soon after moving in, the buyers find out that the central air conditioning system needs repair. The system was working up until the closing date. The buyers submitted a claim with the home warranty company, but only a part of the repairs were covered.

The buyers now want us to pay $500 for these uncovered repairs. The buyers had a home inspector come before the closing to check out the home. At the time of the inspection, we were not home. The buyers claim that the inspector was not able to figure out how to turn on the air conditioning unit. They then asked us to pay for an HVAC professional to have the system checked out. We denied their request based on the fact that we have had the system maintained twice a year by an HVAC pro, and that the unit was working at the time of their request. We did offer the buyers an owners manual for the unit, and access to our unit for an HVAC pro to inspect at their cost before the closing. They never followed up on it.

They are threatening to sue us for the $500 and possibly for lawyers fees, cost of a window air conditioning unit, etc. Are we liable for these uncovered repairs?
