Legal Question in Real Estate Law in South Carolina

Realtor contract

I signed with a realtor to sell my house 2 weeks ago. I don't have anything that she gave me about terminating the contract. What are the laws in South Carolina about terminating them and what if we want to sell by-owner to a friend instead... do we have to wait a certain period of time? Are the contracts different with different realtors or are they the same throughout the state? And what are the penalties, ect.?

Re: Realtor contract

Everything is controled by the listing contract you signed. Most listing contracts are for an exclusive listing and do not allow you to sell the property to a friend without paying a commission. You can sometimes terminate an agency contract, but sale of the property to another is protected for a period of time. The real estate commission requires that you be given a copy of the listing agreement by the real estate agent. Call for it and if you don''t get it then contact the Real Estate Commission for help in obtaining it.

It sounds like you need a lawyer.
