Sqatting Problem
I have a relative that was surprised to find out that her boyfriend's parents were moving in the apartment she is renting (she has a year lease that will be up at the end of July this year). It has been since the end of January and she wants her boyfriend AND his parents out of her place. They have refused to move because they say they have no place to go. Asking around she was told that they could not be forced to move because of ''squatter's rights''. The apartment is ONLY in her name and I was wondering if ''squatter's rights'' at a private residence exists? This is an extremely stressful situation for her.

They moved in, because she let them.

To get them out, she needs to consult an attorney who can advise her about what to do.

If she gets the locks changed by the landlord and puts their stuff in a storage bin, how will they get in, if she doesn't let them in??

She might also get some help from her landlord, especially if there is a clause in the lease allowing him to evict them all.

Having created the situation, she will have a hard time changing it, but it's not impossible.
