Legal Question in Real Estate Law in South Carolina

A window cleaning company dripped bleach on the carpet and ruined it. The owner says he will pay something, but wants to use a company he picks, so he can barter an exchange of services. I want to pick who installs the carpet. What is he legally responsible for? The entire replacement of the carpet will be about 1800.00. They also ruined some patio furniture. I told him I will not ask for reimbursement of the furniture, but he offered to have a painter friend come look at.
