Legal Question in Traffic Law in South Carolina
In 2008 I was driving in SC and was pulled over and was given a ticket for controlled substance. I was told if I paid the ticket off that I would not lose my license and that I would not have to show up for court. Now, in late 2009 I received a letter saying that my license is suspended until April of 2010. The check I sent was cashed so I want to know what went wrong or what I have to do to get my license back.

Obviously someone gave you some bad information. I hope it wasn't the police. I am a criminal defense lawyer here in SC and I more and more times when the police tell the defendant something that is not correct.
There is a process for getting a temporary license. Off hand I do not know what it is since I am not in my office and do not have access to any resource material. You might be able to call DMV and ask them, or possibly go to your local DMV office and see if they can tell you the process.
Good luck
