Legal Question in Traffic Law in South Carolina
Damage to vehicle from another vehicle throwing coins out of window
What, if any, are the legal options for me in the following scenario? I was driving down the highway when I was passed by a vehicle who proceeded to throw items out of his truck window hitting my car and causing damage to the paint. He threw multiple items at my car during the ordeal, and drove erradically as well. I called police during this time, explained the situation I was in, gave the license plate number, and was told all they could do was be on the lookout for the vehicle. It wasn't discovered till after I got home that there was significant paint damage to my car. Is there anything I can do, or should I just suck it up as a lost cause? I have the license plate number and description of the vehicle, but no names or good physical descriptions of the occupants. I also have another witness who was in the car with me.

Call the police back, have them do a report and ask them to have the person arrested or ticket. Then, turn it over to your insurance company. If you really want to go through the trouble, find out who the car's owner is and file a lawsuit. Good luck.
