Legal Question in Traffic Law in South Carolina

Emergancy Vehicles

When driving an emergency vehicle responding to a call (lights and serine) and having to make a right turn onto a side street approx 120 to 140 degree angle from the main street. Is it a legal for that emergency vehicle to make a wide sweeping turn onto that side street? The main street being a four lane with a paved median and the side street being a two-lane street. The emergency vehicle used the two lanes in its direction of trivial to complete the turn. The fire truck had entered the right hand lane to make the turn, then seeing that making the turn required a wide sweeping turn, drifted back to the left lane never fully leaving the right lane or fully entering the left lane. Then when the turn was made the fire truck was struck in the passenger side by a vehicle tiring to pass on the right.

Re: Emergancy Vehicles

Sorry, but your explanation is a bit confusing. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. You started out talking about an emergency vehilce, then ended up talking about a fire truck, and lastly made reference to a third vehicle. I'm pretty sure the third vehicle is not the emergency vehicle, but not sure if the fire truck is or is not the emergence vehcile. It would be easier if you called. Robert Johnston 843-828-1137
