Legal Question in Traffic Law in South Carolina

run away car

I pulled into a friends drive way and forgot to pull the emergency brake on my stick shift car it procceded to roll back and hit a brick mailbox across the street no one was in the car. I left and came back later the next day when a state trooper called me. I saw the trooper and he said I could rebuild it or he could write a report and said I had one week. I don't have the money to pay anyone to do it and I did not rebuild it beacuse i don't know anything about masonry. The partolman never contacted me again and didn't take down any insurance information. The owners of the mailbox said they would take me to court. Can they take me to criminal court or civil court. can I get arrested Im worried beacuse a record would effect my scholarships. Thanks

They could ask that a warrant be issued for your arrest and they could also sue you. Have you tried contacting the owners of the mailbox, telling them your sorry and see if you can work out a payment arrangement? I wouldn't just ignore it.
