Legal Question in Traffic Law in South Carolina
Traffic Stop
I had pulled into my church parking lot to go inside to receive a bulletin to find out about the going's on of the week I got out of my car to go inside when a police officer pulled up behind me on the property he signaled for me to come over to him so i did. He poointed out to me that my plates needed to be changed to South Carolina tags and said that it was a warning and he pulled off. i proceeded to go into the church and got my bulleitn. I came back out got into my car and went to drive off. while still on the property he pulled back up next to me and said '' I'm going to write you a warning to make this oficial go get this taken care of today.'' I said '' Yes sir.'' while writing out the warning he noticed that the tags were expired ( the car is my husbands so i did not know the tags were expired that is his job to register the vehicles). So he wrote me a ticket. I was told by a police officer that if you are on provate property a police officer cannot come onto the property and issue you a ticket he must wait for you to leave the property and then pull you while on the public streets. Is this correct? Please help.

Re: Traffic Stop
You were told wrong. A police officer may pull onto private property to give you a ticket.
