Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in South Carolina

Death of a parent

Recently we lost our mom and we live in another state and are not sure what the law is in South Carolina where she passed away. The main question is do we need a succession to finalize her estate? She has 4 children and there is property in question. She left a car, mobile home and furniture, etc. How do we dispose of these items legally? Also, what else do we need to do to close the matter? Thank you for your reponse.

Re: Death of a parent

You will need to open a probate case for your mother. If you come to town you can do some of the work yourself in probate court, or you can retain an attorney to do the work so you won't have to come to town. As part of the probate case, the titles on the property will be changed over to the name of your mom's beneficiaries through her will or her heirs at law if there was no will.

Contact a probate (trusts & estates, successions) lawyer licensed in South Carolina. If there is land anywhere that must be dealt with legally. Otherwise the answer is in her home state.
