Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in South Carolina
A diamond ring is left to someone in a will. Would the value of the ring be replacement value or the actual value of that diamond ring? The ring is 75 years old.

Although my license to practice law is limited to Texas, I feel pretty certain that the answer is largely universal. Even so, you should consider contacting a probate attorney in your jurisdiction to gain the best response.
The property of the estate of a decedent is ordinarily inventoried, and if necessary appraised, using the fair market value of the property as of the decedent's death. This value is usually defined as the price that a willing seller and wiling buyer would agree upon in the marketplace.
