Nursing Home and Bank Accounts

My father placed my name on his account 5 plus years ago. If he is placed in a nursing home by the State will this prevent them from taking the money in his account?

No, not necessarily, if whatever funds they're entitled to take in this account can be provably traced to his ownership.
