AT&T Won't give Cash Rewards when going out of business

I received a letter from AT&T Cash Rewards that they decided to discontinue their credit card for business reasons. They normally issue checks in the rewards program when your balance becomes $50 or more. However I don't have time to charge enough to obtain $50 by the closing time they posted of 06/30/06. It took a long time to work up to the 26.57 I have now. They tell me they can't give me my reward unless the balance is $50 or more, even though it is not me that is canceling the account it is them!

Isn't it my right to be paid the $26.57 I have earned since it is them that is ending the program? I asked the agent on the phone if they have received other complaints about this and she said ''Yes a lot!''.

I also wrote twice to them on their online website but the answers they gave me finally led to their suggestion to call them on their 1-800 number which I did to no avail.

Can you help me in my effort to obtain the Cash Rewards I have earned?

While you may be entitled to the cash reward because it is not your fault that the program is being discontinued, it will be difficult to find a lawyer willing to file a lawsuit for $26.57.

You may want to pursue them in small claims court, but honestly, the filing fee will probably be triple the amount you are seeking.

Also, a lot depends on the card agreement. The credit card companies have become skilled at writing contracts fully favorable to them - (i.e. being allowed to discontinue the program without issuing earned rewrards).
