Legal Question in Employment Law in South Dakota

No Competes

I'm a news anchor at a television station. I signed a 2 year contract that has since expired 2 months ago, but still work for the station. I have a job offer from a competing station in town, but my no-compete clause says I can't work for anyone else for 12 months after termination of ''employment'' Does that mean even though the contract ran out 2 months ago...I still have to wait 12 months? And is there any way around these non competes?

Re: No Competes

Need to see the contract language to advise, but if it was drafted correctly, yes, it means 12 months after termination of contract ( usually including any extensions by continuing to work after term ends).

Call or email for more assistance.

I have litigated numerous non-compete cases over the last 25 years.
