chapter 7 bankruptcy
My mother is 70 yrs. old, she has worked all her life and continues to work a full-time job. She has unfortunate credit card debt and is planning to file chapter 7. She has a mortgage and wishes to keep her home.Is there any way she can keep her home. I'm not familiar with bankruptcy and I want to give her good advice.

Re: chapter 7 bankruptcy
There are many ways your mother can protect her home, depending on whether she is still paying a mortgage, what other property she has, what the exemption laws are in your state, how much the house is worth.
If you really want to help her, tell her to get a lawyer who specializes in bankruptcy. The cost of the lawyer is well worth it for the protection against making an expensive mistake.
If she can't afford a lawyer, she should try Legal Aid. Most bar associations also have panels of lawyers willing to work for a reduced fee.
Good luck!
