Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Tennessee

Employment and bankruptcy

I have recently put in an application for a job that i am qualified for. I recently learned from another person that they sent him a letter saying they would not hire him due to him previously filing a bankruptcy. I have also filed in the past and this concerns me now. Can a manfacturing company not hire me due to me filing a bankruptcy over 4 yrs ago? It is not a finanical position, it is a position inside the factory operating machinery. If they do now hire me due to the bankruptcy, do I have any recourse?

Generally, it is illegal for an employer to refuse to hire an individual because of a prior bankruptcy filing. Hiring discrimination cases are difficult because of the usual lack of knowledge about the qualifications of the successful candidate. If you or your friend believe you were discriminated against because of your bankruptcy filing, I would recommend that you consult with an attorney in regards to this.
