Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Tennessee
SSI/Bankruptcy
My only source of income is an SSI Disability.
I have well over $15,000 in credit card debt.
Is Chapter 7 Bankruptcy an option or my only option?
Thanks!

Re: SSI/Bankruptcy
If I were you I would save your money and not file bankruptcy because your only income is SSI which is exempt from the claims of creditors; meaning, that creditors cannot take anything from you or garnish your SSI. If you keep a small bank account and only have SSI in it, no creditor can touch it. BUT if you co-mingle/mix SSI money with other money from another source then whatever money is in that bank account including your SSI will be subject to the claims of creditors. So keep your SSI money separate from all other money and that way your creditors cannot garnish you.
