Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Tennessee
Wage garnishment
I received notice today of wage garnishments for a debt that I owe, I never received a court summons for this debt like I have on others. I was able to work out payments with others. Did not receive notice of a court date. They took what little was in my checking account, now food checks will bounce. The garnishee is my credit union, if I deposit my next check will it be taken as well? It is not through my employer as I am only substitute teaching. There is no amount for a monthly pay, just the total. It says there is to be a payment no less than once every 30 days. Do I have any recourse to set up a payment plan since I didn't know to appear in court or contact them for arrangements? Please help me!!!

Re: Wage garnishment
If this is a general sessions case, there is a process for setting up installment payments. This may be able to help you.
The answer to your question about garnishing your next check is yes. If you deposit the money into a bank account where a levy has been placed, that money can also be swept up in the levy.
