As a Franchise Attorney I can say the following. A small claims lawsuit in Tennessee is filed in the Court of General Sessions. It provides a quick and inexpensive way of resolving many types of disputes. As of July 2010, the filing fee is $119.50 if the local sheriff serves your summons on the defendant. These cost is generally added to your award if you win. Whether it's worth your time and effort to go to Small Claims for $900 is a personal decision. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
