Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Tennessee

Working off the clock

I work for a pet store, where the pets are bought at very low prices and sold for very high prices, and yet all the employees are paid minimum wage. Also, the other employees and I are forced to work off the clock at opening and closing time. We are required by the job to come in at least an hour before we clock in and stay hours after closing. I know this is illegal, but how do I go about getting this changed? It isn't fair or motivating to the staff. Also, we are encouraged to sell, sell, sell puppies and make a small percentage of commission if we do, but we have to average the store $100 an hour for every hour we work over 2 weeks to make it. Then, if we DO make commission, we do not receive any of our earned hourly wages. Is this legal?

Yes, the ER is likely violating overtime laws. You should contact a knowledgeable employment lawyer like myself to assist you in collecting your proper wages.
