Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

a bill from 5 yrs ago

I have received a collection letter indicating that I owe 80.00 to US Cellular from 2002. I have never heard from them at anytime indicating that I owe anything. US Cellular has no records. Collections won't give me any answers. They say if I don't pay, it will affect my credit report. My question is........is there a certain time frame you can be billed? This was 5 years ago. I would think after so long, it would not be legal to do.

You were close; you have six years to collect on an unpaid bill but of course there are exceptions.
