Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

calls from credit card collectors

if you are deliquent on paying a debt on a credit card from several years ago can they now can they take possession of my home or vechile? I'm trying to get the account up to date paying what I can. I have sent 200.00 but they want 1500.00 up front and 1000.00 a month. What can i do. thank you

Unfortunately, about the only thing you can do is talk to them and try to work something out. Being in default puts most of the bargaining power on the side of the creditor, which is not you. Further factors to be considered are the nature of the debt (is it a mortgage, car loan or credit card debt) and whether or not the debt is secured by some property. Depending on the answer to these questions, you may have some ability to work out some type of payment schedule which is mutually acceptable.

As with most situations, you would be well-served to talk to an attorney about your situation. Of course, you will probably have to pay for that consultation, but it may be well worth your while.
