Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

Collection by Law Firm

A unpaid phone bill was turned to a Law Firm in GA (i am in TN). They sent me a notice on 8/8 giving me 30 days to dispute, otherwise I needed to send the payment in full immediately. I just received another letter dated 8/19 stating I failed to pay this debt, that I had 48 hours to contact them or they would have papers served to me to appear in court if they filed a suit. They also have already sent a wage verification to my employer. I contacted them and they said they don't accept payment options. What can I do?

If you have other outstanding debts, then you might want to talk to a bankruptcy attorney. That will stop garnishment of your wages. But if the phone bill is under $200, then I would let them take assignment of your wages and avoid the hassle of filing bankruptcy.
