Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

Credit Card Debt Due to Bipolar Disorder

I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder about 6 months ago. Before getting treatment, I would go on shopping sprees buying things on credit that I just did not need. I didn't know at the time that this was a manic episode that I was in. I am now in serious credit debt. I am 24 years old and don't know how to get out of it. Is there any assistance out there for someone like me? I fear all the different companies that say they can lower your debt through consolidation. I just don't want to spend any more money that won't help me. My prescriptions alone are 3/4 of my budget. Credit card debt is really, really hurting me- financially and emotionally.
