Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

Divorce and Debt

I divorced 7 years ago and my ex took ''custody'' of a joint credit card. He charged it up over it's limit, quit paying on it, then filed bankruptcy. The collection agency is now sending me letters wanting to collect $12,667.42 from me. The original amount when he left was around $5,000 and it was $6947 when he quit paying on it. I am not going to file bankruptcy myself to get rid of this. What are my choices in this matter and my legal rights?

Re: Divorce and Debt

I would check on 2 things. 1) Check to see there were any provisions when you got your divorce dealing with that card to ascertain your rights 2) I would also check to see how old that debt is. If you fail to pay it, the bad hit listed on your credit report would be removed after a number of years.
