Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

I have a large amount of credit card debt - I've never missed a payment until recently started getting behind by about a week or so - at this time I'm not able to pay the minimum due on each card, my question is, if I am paying a $100 or more if I'm able to on each of the cards, can I be sued and/or have my wages garnished? I'm not trying to default on any of these accounts ...just having some trouble meedting the required minimum payment s at this time. Thanks for your advice!

You can be sued if you are not paying the minimum required payment by the payment date. If you are sued and the credit card company obtains a judgment, which is a court pronouncement that you owe the credit card company, your salary/income would be subject to garnishment. Also, any property you own ourtight such as a car for which you have no car payment, could be levied upon (taken by court order and sold).

I would suggest that you contact the credit card companies with which your are having problems and try to negotiate a payment schedule. Most companies will work with a person who is having problems.
