Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

If I'm only making $350 a month, is it legal for a debt collector to demand $250 a month or threaten to take personal items out of our home?

I would need to know more information about the debt (i.e. is there a judgment) and what collection methods are being used (i.e. are these statements being made via telephone during collection calls, in letters, or via court documents seeking to execute on a judgment).
