Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

Mother's medical bills

My mother is without health insurance, not working and is seeking permanent disability. She will be undergoing another surgery to repair an old back injury, which will likely rack up over $100,000 in medical bills. Are her children in any way responsible for the bills if she does not/cannot pay? Thanks.

Re: Mother's medical bills

NO, her children are not responsible EXCEPT if one of them signs a contract with a health care provider stating that they would be responsible in the event mom can't pay the bills. But if he/she doesn't sign anything making them a surety for her bills, then "no", they are not legally responsible for the debts of their mother.
